On Sunday, January 29, France won Miss Universe for the first time since 1953, and 12 pageant predictors earned 30 or more points in the 2017 Miss Universe predictions competition.
The top 12 included S.xoxo with 30 points, and CalFan, LadyRee, DCPageantDude, and Katie who all had 31 points. Five more predictors cracked the top 12 with 32 points each: gaj, NewYorkGuy, Freud, MoNkayMaN, and LatinBR. Harley finished as first runner-up with an impressive 33 points, but posa2000 edged out a victory with a comfortable two-point lead.
The most-predicted semifinalist to make the cut was Miss Philippines, appearing on 109 lists, followed by France who appeared on 104 lists. Miss USA was on 101 lists, with Brazil and Colombia on 98 lists each. Eighty-seven people correctly predicted Thailand would make the cut, while Mexico was on 76 lists, and Indonesia was on 70. The biggest surprises of the night were Panama (who appeared on only 35 lists), Peru (21 lists), Haiti (20 lists), Canada (19 lists), and Kenya (who appeared on just three predictors lists).
The most-predicted delegate to not make the semis was Venezuela, who was on 100 lists. Other popular delegates to not make the cut included: Australia (84 lists), Ukraine (68 lists), Dominican Republic (53 lists), Puerto Rico (43 lists), Sierra Leone (39 lists), Argentina (38 lists), Curacao (30 lists), Spain (29 lists), and India (25 lists).
Out of the 117 people who submitted their predictions for Miss Universe, only 10 correctly guessed that France would take the crown: posa2000, Athalia, MSgal, I Heart Pageants (IHP), Pikachu, DUDA, Salso, arianafan, NeSoDak, and Angel.
Based on Pageant Predictions participants, the runaway winner was Miss Brazil, as 28 predictors anticipated a Brazilian victory. Both Thailand and Indonesia had 10 participants foreseeing them being named the new Miss Universe. Eight participants expected Colombia to win the title, seven thought USA would win the pageant, and six predicted the coronation of back-to-back Filipino Miss Universes. Five predictors expected Ukraine to take the title.
Posa2000s winning list included: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, France, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Thailand, Ukraine, USA, and Venezuela. That means posa2000 correctly predicted 11 of the top 13 semifinalists, as well as a French victory.
As usual, I took the liberty of scoring the results of USBs Mock Miss Universe competition. Collectively, USB would have earned a total of 27 points, tying for 27th place.
As the final MUO pageant of the season, these scores have been added to the ones from Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, completing the 2016 Predictor of the Year competition. To see who came out on top and claimed this years coveted title (not to mention a pretty impressive trophy and some serious bragging rights), hover over the PAST RESULTS tab, then hover over 2016, and click on 2016 FINAL RESULTS. Once again, thanks to all of you for participating. As always, I had an absolute blast orchestrating the competition, and I hope you all enjoyed it as well. I cant wait to start all over again in 2017!
